What is the use of Polarization Beam Combiner/splitter?

The polarization beam combiner is used to combine light beams from two PM input fiber into a single output fiber and the splitter is used to split an input fiber into two orthogonal polarization components. The polarization division multiplexing or de-multiplexing helps to increase the transmission capacity in the optical system.

It also has a pump and signal combiner in an optical amplifier which efficiently combines the output from two pumps into a single fiber which increases the saturation power of the optical amplifier and reduces the polarization sensitivity.

The device has attractive amplifier systems with high saturation power handling capability and Polarization Maintaining WDM. The device is very compact offering low excess insertion loss and low back reflection. The package is designed with rugged stainless steel for high optical performance and stability. It is used on the application to double the pump power to an Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA). It combines the light of two pumps into a single fiber. The configuration uses two PM fibers for the input and the SM fiber for the output. It is also a beam splitter.

These are the application on which Polarization Beam Combiner is used –

Let us now look at some of the characteristics of the device –

  • It has a high extinction ratio that equals or surpasses other products for better markets performance.

  • The extinction ratio equals or surpasses the other products and the bandwidth for the device is +/-40.

  • -5 ~ +70 is the operating temperature and -40 ~ +85 is the storing temperature.

  • Polarization Beam Combiner uses the wavelengths of 1310nm, 1480nm and 1550nm.

There are various solution providers who help the manufacturing or development of the device. Also, it helps in the higher data transmission and it a cost-effective measure for the splitting of an input fiber. The will be in-built capabilities in the device that will serve the client objectives. It is important to consult the expert manufacturer for getting the exact installation and commissioning of the device with integrated devices.
